Presidential Candidates Talk with YouthBuild Students
Two presidential candidates recently visited YouthBuild programs and took time to talk to students.
Earlier this month, Hillary Clinton visited the Las Vegas YouthBuild program and spoke with close to 15 current students. This visit followed the release a few days earlier of her proposal to address the issues facing low-income communities, which included a commitment to "scale up proven solutions like the Department of Labor's YouthBuild porgram to engage these young individuals in education, training, and community service opportunities; help break the cycle of poverty and reduce recidivism; and put them on a path towards productive employment."
This week John Kasich held a town hall meeting in the event space at the YouthBuild program in Gulfport, MS, operated by CLIMB CDC. YouthBuild students from the program were invited to attend, and afterwards Governor Kasich took some time to talk with a group of students.
YouthBuild programs and YouthBuild USA are non-partisan and non-political, and such meetings are not in support of any candidates. These events and visits provide opportunities for YouthBuild students to have a direct experience of civic engagement in action. We hope all of the Presidential candidates will find the time to talk with YouthBuild students over the coming weeks and months.
