Building Better Together 2017

Boston, MA - Massachusetts Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Jay Ash joined members of the business community, along with students and graduates from Massachusetts YouthBuild programs, at Building Better Together, an event in support of YouthBuild USA.

During his keynote speech Secretary Ash voiced his support for the YouthBuild model, noting that he himself grew up in Chelsea and understood the realities that many YouthBuild students face. "There are no bad kids, only kids who've had bad experiences," he told the audience after listening to the personal stories of the YouthBuild students and graduates.

Students from YouthBuild programs in Boston and Lowell, and graduates of YouthBuild Lawrence and Fall River, each shared how they came to their respective YouthBuild programs and how they used the experiences in the programs to increase their life opportunities. YouthBuild USA CEO John Valverde shared his personal story that led him to take over the helm of YouthBuild USA in January 2017. The event was closed out by a heartfelt appeal to the business community to support the work of YouthBuild by Boston Private Bank and Trust Senior Vice President Esther Schlorholtz.

Leading sponsors for the evening were The Abrams Management Company, Boston Capital, Corcoran Jennison and JP Morgan Chase & Co. View the full list of event partners.
