Executive Assistant to the Founder & CEO
What’s been your career path at YouthBuild USA?
I started working for the Founder & CEO as an Administrative Assistant in 2007. During my first few months here, I was called upon to do a lot of coordination of graduate speaking events, which led me to become the manager of YouthBuild USA’s National Speakers Bureau. While supporting the Founder’s day-to-day needs, I also identify upcoming nation speaking engagements and submit proposals to various conferences, so our YouthBuild mission and graduate voice can be heard. In 2010, I was promoted to Executive Assistant, as my workload and project management work had increased. Lately, my focus has been on increasing the visibility of our National Speakers Bureau and working on special projects for the Executive Office. I have also become the pseudo “office therapist,” which allows me to provide support to employees and graduates during difficult moments. This latter shift has prompted me to return to school and I’m currently pursuing a MSW from Simmons College.
How has the organization helped support you as a person?
YouthBuild USA is very supportive of my work/life balance! I'm a mother and a grad student so when I have a scheduling challenge the organization has always found a way to support my hectic and ever changing schedule. I've had the opportunity to work from home so I can take an afternoon class and if I get a call that my child is sick, it has never been an issue for me to leave work, arrange childcare and then return to the office. At times, I've even returned to the office with my child and he's always welcomed with open arms. “I LOVE my job!”
What’s the most unique thing about working at YouthBuild USA?
The most unique thing about working at YouthBuild USA is the support I've received from various levels of the organization. Whether that support comes from the Receptionist, the HR team, or the CEO herself, I can turn anywhere for help and the people here are willing and able to be of assistance during my times of need.
What do you like most about the culture?
What I like most about YouthBuild USA’s culture is the sense of community! During our bi-weekly Community Meetings we get together and share stories of the exciting things we've all been working on and it’s a good opportunity to see your colleagues and catch-up with them as well.
