The YouthBuild National Rural Gathering is designed to target the needs of all staff members. This year’s event covers a mix of topics including case management and counseling for rural programs, building rural post-secondary education opportunities, addressing rural housing issues, community forestry opportunities for your young people, and building financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills at rural YouthBuild programs.
Please do not book your airline ticket or your hotel until you have registered for this event!

Native YouthBuild Gathering
Monday, September 27 from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Note that this is a full day of native/tribal conversations, based upon a desire from the field to meet longer. If you are a program that is serving a significant number of Native American youth and/or operating through a tribal entity then please join us to identify your key needs and strategies for responding to those challenges as well as collectively identifying our goals for a national YouthBuild tribal strategy.
Director Roundtable, Discussion, and Feedback
Monday, September 27 from 1:00-4:00 p.m.
We welcome your feedback and input and we want to give you a chance to exchange information with your YouthBuild colleagues! Please join us for a roundtable conversation on Monday afternoon. We would like to hear your thinking on a couple of projects and topics regarding YouthBuild USA’s rural work and relevance for the field (i.e. alternative training tracks for rural programs, status and needs regarding criminal justice work, update on green pathways work, post-secondary need, etc.) If at all possible, director’s please plan on joining us for this meeting. As we get closer to the event, we will send out an email with specific information regarding this conversation.
New Staff Orientation: Introduction to the YouthBuild Model
Monday, September 27th from 1:00-4:00 p.m.
This session is specifically designed for new YouthBuild staff at rural sites. It will provide a basic overview of the model, examples of how other rural program’s have designed the main components as well as addressed some of the key challenges facing rural young people. There will be lots of time for Q & A and peer exchange with other site staff. We strongly encourage Director’s to send any new or newer staff members to this session.
Appalachian YouthBuild Regional Network Meeting
Monday, September 27th from 4:00-5:00 p.m.
For those sites operating in the Appalachian region, please plan to arrive in time for this meeting.
HUD YouthBuild National Rural Gathering
Tuesday and Wednesday, September 28 and 29.
The National Rural Gathering will begin with Registration and an Informal Networking Reception on Monday, September 27 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. The main event begins on Tuesday, September 28 at 8:30 a.m. and will end on Wednesday, September 29 at 4:30 p.m.
Please book your travel to depart Albuquerque after 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29. For those of you traveling home to the east coast, southern and midwest regions, you may need to book your travel to depart the following day--Thursday, September 30th.
