To lift the issues of disconnected youth into the political arena where they can receive adequate attention, YouthBuild USA has joined forces with the National Youth Employment Coalition (NYEC) and the National Association of Service and Conservation Corps (NASCC) to launch the Campaign for Youth.
The Campaign is dedicated to promoting public policy solutions that address issues confronting low-income people ages 16-24. The Campaign’s mission is to expand access for all youth to quality job training, education, employment, national and community service, leadership development, and career exposure experiences for all youth.
The Campaign has attracted other national organizations to join in building a broad-based coalition with a far-reaching agenda. Leaders of the Forum for Youth Investment, CLASP, the Youth Law Center, Connect for Kids, the Sar Levitan Center for Social Policy Studies, and the National Council of Churches have played active roles on the Campaign’s Steering Committee.
Dorothy Stoneman, David Brown (NYEC), and Sally Prouty (NASCC) served as co-chairs for the first three years, with Gene Sofer serving as managing director. Sally Prouty and Linda Harris of the Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP) now co-chair the Campaign.
